About $212,000-383,000 worth of African Art


The African Art belonging to Robert Rubin is to be sold at Sotheby's auction house in New York later this month. Its a remarkable collection, with some really incredible works, a sampling of which is below. There are many superior examples of several classic figures, masks and ornament from the Congo to the Sahara, including several glistening Akan gold hairpins and a handful of incredible objects of elephant ivory. Most amazing are a handful of absolutely unique masterpieces, including the hugely unusual Lot #3, shown below, and culminating in the totally stunning Lot #49, a studded Songye Male Power Figure from the DR Congo, which is estimated to fetch a low-six figure strike price. The crying of the lots begins May 13th at 10am in New York.
