Vintage Photos of Liberia by a Pan Am Passenger

In times like this is overwhelmingly tempting screenshot-and-post the gorgeous photos that I found wandering around Flickr recently. The photo series in Hotelcurly's photo stream include about 25 slides of Liberia from a lifetime ago, from an undated trip to Africa aboard Pan Am jet.

There aren't any scenes of Monrovia proper, but most seem to have been taken on a rural stretch of paved highway, so its tempting to make the leap that they were taken by a Pan Am employee or another passenger on a brief layover at the airport hotel at Robertsfield, who wandered out of the hotel and took some snaps of Smell-No-Taste.

The photos are wonderful, and in this era of instagram (much less wanton disregard for photographer's copyrights) they are particularly eye-watering. Out of respect for the photographer's clear statement of licensing, they will not appear here without permission, but if you were ever implored to click on a link, please do so. If you don't, why are you reading this blog??
